Peyronie’s disease is a common condition affecting men, caused by the formation of fibrous plaque within the penis, leading to curvature, discomfort, and in some cases erectile dysfunction. A widely recommended conservative treatment in UK urology is the use of a medical-grade vacuum pump with progressive inner tubes, designed to apply controlled longitudinal stretch and support tissue remodelling.
Clinical evidence supports this approach. A study of men with Peyronie’s disease and erectile dysfunction evaluated a vacuum therapy protocol using progressively larger multi-diameter cylinders over three months. Significant improvements were observed in penile curvature (23.3° to 11.1°), plaque size (1.78 cm to 1.06 cm), and plaque number (P < 0.001), with most men reporting satisfaction and no need for further treatment (Ghasemlouei 2020).
Most Peyronie's vacuum pump protocols suggest pumping until erect and then holding for five minutes, releasing the vacuum and taking a one minute break, and then pumping and holding for another five minutes, two to three times a day for at least three months.
Vacuum therapy is not suitable for all patients. It is generally recommended for men with mild to moderate curvature and stable disease. Men with severe curvature, significant pain, or complex deformities should seek advice from a urologist before use.
